I visited Whalefest (in Brighton which is an annual event) earlier this year and I witnessed the many different ways the human race were exploiting Cetaceans (Whales and Dolphins) for money.

I have to say I am appauled.

They suggested everyone that visited watched the film Blackfish about Killer Whales in captivity, specifically those at the SeaWorld's in America and Loro Parque in Tenerife. They suggested that everybody that visited the Whalefest to then show Blackfish to at least one more person to increase the awareness of exactly what these water parks are doing.

I can't begin to make any excuses for the owners and managers of these parks as to why they would treat the Whales like this and why they would cover up the stories of all of the accidents occurring at their parks. All I know is their heads are in it for the MONEY. These whales are their tickets to MILLIONS of £$£$£$£$ every year and they won't stop what they are doing until, well, they just won't stop will they?

These Whales, these WILD CREATURES, are taken from their parents an average of 2 years before they would generally start to feed themselves and start hunting for themselves. The calves never leave their mother or their POD ever. Not until they pass away. They are being ripped from their family, their homes, their freedom and thrown into glass tanks often in with other whales who have been through the same things or sometimes even on their own. These tanks are ALWAYS TOO SMALL for the animals to live properly. The average distance an ORCA (Killer Whale) would swim in a day would be 100km. The only distance they swim in a tank is the size of the tank.

These whales are then taught to do tricks for an audience of people (PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST LIKE YOU. Who buy tickets to these SeaWorld and other water parks to watch these beautiful animals do TRICKS for FOOD.) They are starved if they don't do it right. They are going crazy because they are alone or they're with other whales who don't like them. They are killed in their own tanks by the other orcas. They KILL trainers because they are NOT MEANT TO BE PUT IN A TANK AND FORCED TO DO TRICKS. They are meant to be swimming in pods throughout the wild oceans. They are meant to be free. Not captured when they're babies and shoved into some alien world.

And as consumers it is our fault they are because we buy the tickets. We pay the SeaWorld and the Loro Parque to capture the animals and make them perform until they die. We pay for them to breed the animals until they all contain nearly the same DNA. We pay for them to be put in tanks and be murdered by other Whales. We PAY FOR TRAINERS TO DIE and THE COMPANIES TO COVER IT UP. 

STOP BUYING TICKETS TO WATER PARKS WHERE LIVE ANIMALS ARE CAPTURED AND HAVE SHOWS. 

Buy tickets to go on wildlife cruises to witness the Whales in their own habitat (where they never kill people, hurt other orcas, and hurt themselves deliberately. PAY TO SEE HAPPY WHALES AND DOLPHINS in their own environments and be healthy. 

Watch Blackfish. See what the parks are doing to these animals and help STOP this from happening.

You wouldn't want to be kept in a small pen day in day out and have to flip and do tricks for food would you? SO WHY WOULD THEY?
